NBA Jam, Angry Birds Space, Boid and More [Video]

It's a bonanza of games hitting Android this week. Spend some time with your Android phone with NBA Jam, Fifa '12 and Angry Birds Space. Or if gaming isn't your thing, watch sports with March Madness. Or if sports aren't you're thing, well Tweet with Boid about how much it isn't your thing. More »

First look: Tapatalk 2 beta

Tapatalk 2

Tapatalk is a great way to browse forums from your Android phone, and the bar just got moved a notch or two higher with the beta release of Tapatalk 2. It's the same basic premise --  an app that connects to forums software (through a plug-in installed on the server) so it can deliver an experience optimized for mobile devices. You have controls designed to be easy to use, forum-specific menus and features that you just don't get from a web browser, and a bandwidth-saving U.I. that focuses on delivering content versus themes and other fluff designed to look good on a computer.

Tapatalk 2 just does all this better. There also are a couple new features, namely an improved UI with multiple theme support, improved moderation tools, a nicer conversation style, and cloud-based account sync. Move past the bullet points and this means all the things you love about Tapatalk work better, look better, are faster and sync back to your phone when you reset the data on your phone.

We know a lot (as in a lot) of people use Tapatalk to peruse the Android Forums here at Android Central. Tapatalk 2 is going to make all of us happy.  You'll love the new UI and theme options, forum moderators will love the new moderation options, crack-flashers will love the new sync option, and everyone will love how much faster it is. This is how you provide a major update -- everything works just like you're used to it working, and the improvements make the entire experience better without any change in the way you use the app. If you spend any time on forums from your Android phone, you need to give this a try. After the break you'll find a bunch of screenshots and a Google Play store link to the current version of Tapatalk (Android 1.5 and up, $2.99). You can also hit the source link and learn more about the beta from the folks at Quoord Systems Ltd.

Rdio inks deal to license UK music, but doesn't offer up a visit date

One of those other music subscription services has inched towards British shores, announcing a licensing deal with PRS for Music, a not-for-profit organization representing around 85,000 songwriters and music publishers. The San Francisco-made music service has already launched across Europe, the US and Brazil, but still remains out of reach for Brits. While it's far from a confirmation of intent, the service might have plans to jump across to the land of royalty, Rich Tea biscuits and RPattz pretty soon.

Why Tablets Will Send PCs Toward Oblivion

As analysts watch the killer success of Apple's new iPad launch -- 3 million sold over the first three days -- I'm seeing a lot more predictions that overall sales of tablets will soon start to exceed those of PCs. Crazy to think of it, isn't it? PCs are everywhere. Many homes have several, businesses have gobs, and they are a staple item used to connect billions of people to, well, everything.

Bluetooth SIG embraces GNSS Profile 1.0 for GPS data sharing

Image
Hot on the heels of a new Broadcom system that taps into the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) in order to reduce first-lock times, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group has quietly adopted GNSS Profile 1.0 for GPS data sharing. According to Phone Scoop, the profile can be used by all devices boasting Bluetooth 2.0 and up, and it'll allow GPS-enabled products to share positioning data with another nearby product over BT. Specifically, "the GNSS profile specification defines the Serial Port Profile (SPP) based transport mechanism and associated service discovery record parameters needed to establish a service level connection between two devices," which should make GPS data sharing as easy as contact sharing of yesteryear. Practical applications? With a plethora of location-based social networking apps already on the market, we're certainly playing the wait-and-see game on this one.

Kuwait Played Borat's Hilariously Obscene Fake Anthem as the Real Kazakhstan National Anthem [Video]

Winning a sporting event while representing your country is supposed to be a moment of pride—standing atop the medal podium, hearing your national anthem, feeling all your hard work pay off. Griffin's Helo TC Assault helicopter now on sale, gives you yet another way to annoy co-workers

Image
It was way back at CES when Griffin's Helo TC Assault chopper first landed on our radar, and now it's set for retail takeoff. Remember the original TC we played with last summer? This Apache-inspired RC helicopter comes with the same IR flight deck, allowing for motion or touchscreen controls with Android and iOS devices. Aside from its aggressive design, the Assault lives up to its moniker thanks to six plastic missiles which you can "live-fire" toward unsuspecting co-workers. If you're ready to wage war against the likes of desk-mounted USB Missile Launchers, the TC Assault is on sale now for $60 -- though, you'll need to add-in a quartet of AAs on your own. Jump past the break to see how Griffin envisions the chopper serving during deployment, along with a detail-packing press release.
