Motorola Defy Mini launches in Poland

Defy mini

Motorola's continuing its global roll-out of the Defy Mini (or DEFY MINI, if you prefer) with the news of the phone's arrival in Poland today. As you might expect, the Defy Mini is a miniature version of last year's Motorola Defy, and comes equipped with entry-level smartphone internals along with dust, water and scratch resistance. Inside this 3.2-inch device you've got a 600MHz CPU, 512MB of RAM and Android 2.3 Gingerbread running the show. So nothing to write home about in terms of specs, but if you're after a small, inexpensive, ruggedized smartphone, you could do worse than the Defy Mini.

The Motorola Defy Mini will launch in selected Polish stores this month, with a suggested retail price of 799 Polish zloty (~$250). We've got Moto's press release after the break.

Microsoft moves logistics center out of Germany, blames Motorola patent battle

Microsoft moves logistics center out of Germany, blames Motorola patent battleIt may be a mere thorn in the foot of a giant like Microsoft, but the ongoing H.264 licensing dispute with Motorola is clearly starting to sting. German news outlet CIO reports that Redmond has shifted part of its European logistics operation from Germany to the Netherlands, affecting around 50 jobs at a contractor called Arvato. Although it might seem like a minor shuffle, CIO reports that Microsoft explicitly blames Motorola's patent litigation for the decision, saying it was otherwise happy with Arvato's services in warehousing Windows and Xbox 360 titles. If this represents the start of a new trend, those tasty Euros being earned by Mannheim lawyers could potentially be cancelled out by losses elsewhere in the German economy.

It's April Fool's so our inbox is flooding with pranks both delightful and disturbing. There aren't many that really pertain to iPhones or iPads. We mentioned Google's 8-bit Maps and Gmail Tap earlier, but here are a few more that show some effort, creativity, charm, or humor.

Hearing Aid Vacuums Might Be Handy For Earbud Maintenance [Vacuums]

The Renew is a tiny handheld vacuum, with an even tinier syringe nozzle, designed to suck dust, debris, and earwax out of a hearing aid. And as gross as it sounds, it might also be an effective way to improve your headphones' sound. More »

Atari Pong review (1976)

Atari Pong review
Multiplayer gaming today has become an inherently and bewilderingly antisocial affair. You grab a controller, take up as much space as possible on your couch at home, then connect to some random game hosted by some random server filled with some random people with whom you do your damnedest to fill with some collection of lead thrown from some assortment of futuristic weaponry. Along the way, you'll be taunted, insulted and, if you're playing a Halo game, quite possibly physically shamed.

Back in 1976, of course, things were a bit different. Pong was the height of at-home multiplayer gaming. Two dials, one button and one switch is all you had, and with your opponent sitting in extremely close proximity to you, chances are most of the heckling would be the good-natured variety. It is a vastly simplified experience versus what we have today, but in some ways a vastly superior one. Click on through to see why.

Not Even a Robot Would Find These Polygonal Pillows Comfortable [Pillows]

Designer Mika Barr apparently took their inspiration for these angular faceted pillows from the patterned creases seen when you unfold an origami creation. And even though they actually can't feel, we doubt even a robot would find these comfy. More »

Windows 8 wallpaper available to download, Jupiter and Twin UI spotted

windows 8 wallpaper
With Windows 8 milestone 3 now up for grabs for select Microsoft Connect partners, it's inevitable that leaked bits and pieces will start popping up around the Web. In fact, the first "official" wallpaper image from the still-brewing OS is already making the rounds.

As you can see, it's got a similar feel to the good ol' Windows 7 default background, but features a more subdued smattering of cerulean hues. Those of you who want to use the Windows 8 wallpaper on your current desktop can download it from our file dump.

A few other details have been revealed, too. According to ZDNet's source, the Windows 8 Jupiter libraries and Twin UI are starting to take shape -- though all that's been located thus far are "[various files] scattered throughout the OS" and the aptly-named twinui.dll.

Leaked Android Music app images and hands-on review

Android Music player
This morning, an updated version of the stock Android Music app was leaked along with a new version of Android Market. The new Music app, which is labeled 'version 3', is similar to the leaked build from December, but it has received a ton of polish -- and indeed, it looks almost ready for prime time.

If you don't have Android 2.3 -- or don't want to root your phone to install the leaked Music app -- take a look through our gallery, and then read on for our initial hands-on impressions.
