WaterField just announced my next favorite wallet

For those of you that read my reviews, you’ve probably seen me mention the fact that I’ve been carrying a WaterField wallet for the past 5 years. I’ve loved the shape, and style and that it has a zipper that keeps the contents from falling out. On numerous occasions, I’ve zipped my iPhone inside so [...]

BlackBerry Messenger 6.0 screenshots leak

bbm 6
A leaked early version of RIM's upcoming BlackBerry Messenger 6 has been making the rounds since late February, but images of the new app are just now beginning to appear. Over at CrackBerry, the crew has shared a handful of images of BBM 6 in action. Unfortunately, you won't get a glimpse at a chat or file transfer -- only the profile screens (after the break) and what you see above. All that's really revealed so far is the option to set custom contact and chat colors and BlackBerry OS 6.1-style icons.

CrackBerry also warns against installing the leaked BBM 6 app. There's no guarantee this app hasn't been tampered with, and BlackBerry devices are becoming a more common target for cybercriminals.

iPhone 4S Rumor Fact Check: How Pre-Event Speculation Held Up

To say expectations were high for Tuesday’s iPhone event at Apple HQ would be an understatement. Apple is infamously secretive, and few words of what news Apple’s event held in store were leaked prior to the event. Or rather, few accurate words. Most of the other rumors were dispelled. We’ve taken a look at a [...]

Starting in October, Canucks can cop the system for around $269 with a free 12-month starter subscription to Live offerings. Check out the full PR after the break.

ZTE V55 tablet shows off its derriere at the FCC, Sprint branding in tow

ZTE hasn't made much of a splash stateside, seeing as how the OEM was content to churn out white label devices. All that's changed now as part of the company's strategy to dispense with the anonymity and join the wireless rat race. Making good on that promise is the outfit's ZTE V55 tablet that just reared its touchscreen face over at the FCC. Back in July, a leaked Sprint roadmap had tipped us off to a possible 1st quarter 2012 bow for the slab, and with this unveiled Commission filing, that launch date seems likely. Aside from the de rigeur WiFi b /g and Bluetooth support, not much else can be gleaned from this mystery slate -- apart from its apparent Android leanings. Curiously, the documents refer to ZTE's device as a CDMA tablet and, sure enough, we couldn't find any indication of a 4G radio. We'll keep you posted should this pop up once again with additional bands -- WiMAX or otherwise. Hit up the source below to peruse the federal findings for yourself.

The First Free iPhone Is a F*cking Rip Off [IPhone]

Even though Apple just announced the brand new old iPhone 4S, Apple will still be selling the iPhone 4 for $99 (expected) and the iPhone 3GS for...FREE. Cool! That's the first time an iPhone has ever been free. Too bad it's a complete rip off. More »

Invisibility cloak made of carbon nanotubes uses 'mirage effect' to disappear

If the phrase "I solemnly swear I'm up to no good" means anything to you, you'll be happy to know that scientists have come one step closer to a Potter-style "invisibility cloak" so you can use your Marauder's Map to the fullest. With the help of carbon nanotubes, researchers have been able to make objects seem to magically vanish by using the same principle that causes mirages. As anyone who's been especially parched along Route 66 knows, optical illusions occur when heat changes the air's temperature and density, something that forces light to "bend," making us see all sorts of crazy things. Apply the same theory under water using nanotubes -- one molecule carbon coils with super high heat conductivity -- and scientists can make a sheet of the stuff "disappear." Remember, it only works underwater, so get your gillyweed ready and check out the video after the break.

Zen Coding high-speed HTML shorthand plug-in updated

zencoding
Zen Coding made quite a splash when we first covered it almost a year ago. For those who aren't familiar, Zen is a fantastic form of shorthand for quickly hand-coding HTML. And today, a new version is out!

Here are some of the goodies version 0.7 brings to the party:

  • Text nodes: Writing something like a[href=/]{Click here} now works, and puts "Click here" within the link.
  • New actions added: Increment/decrement number under cursor, evaluate math expressions, and more.
  • Wrap with Abbreviation was upgraded.
There are several other improvements but they're all rather technical. If you use Zen Coding (or are intrigued by the concept) go ahead and read the release notes for this new version.

Zen Coding has official implementations for a ton of editors, including TextMate, Apatana, Coda, E2, Komodo, Notepad++, PSPad, and more. It also has unofficial builds for Vim, UltraEdit, Visual Studio and more.

If you want to play with Zen Coding without installing it, you can use the online demo to see some of its magic in action.
