Chrome 11 beta adds new experimental APIs for proxies, Web navigation

google chrome 11 proxy
Google Chrome 11 -- which just recently made the move to the browser's beta channel -- has received a minor update that gives developers access to two new APIs.

The first is a full-featured proxy API, which will, for example, allow users to set different proxy servers for normal browsing and Incognito mode. Proxy auto-config scripts are also supported by the API.

The second -- Web Navigation Extension -- is a bit more expansive. This API will allow devs to build everything from more powerful safe browsing extensions -- like Traffic Light -- to data analysis and reporting extensions.

Both APIs are currently experimental, so you'll need to enable them on the about:flags page to try out any relevant extensions. Apart from a proxy example built by Google and shipped with the Chromium source, we're not aware of any examples just yet, however. We'll let you know when we spot any slick, new extensions which do surface.

Mad Catz partnering with Microsoft Studios for Halo 4-branded headsets

Mad Catz partnering with Microsoft Studios for Halo 4branded headsetsLooks like Mad Catz has more up its sleeve than just the Wii U accessories it announced at E3 last week. The company just announced a partnership with Microsoft Studios to create Halo 4-branded gaming headsets. Mad Catz says it worked with sound engineers to make sure the headsets complement Halo's "epic sci-fi universe." Alas, that's about all we know right now. Photos and pricing into remain MIA, though the accessories maker says the products will be available in time for the 2012 holiday season.

NBA Finals
The NHL Stanley Cup could be decided in just a few hours if the LA Kings can (finally) take care of business and send the Devils home for the summer, but the NBA finals are just getting started and this should be a good one. The LeBron James-led Heat face off against Kevin Durant's Thunder, pitting (arguably) the game's two best players in a best-of-seven battle for the championship. If you're a fan of basketball, this should be the matchup for you.
(Tuesday / Thursday / Sunday, ABC)

Falling Skies
TNT is all out of NBA coverage for the season, but now its exciting sci fi series is returning for the summer. It doesn't have the biggest special effects budget, but the producers seem to get a lot out of what they're given and the writing improved as its first season went on last year. Noah Wylie of E.R. fame stars as the main character (Moon Bloodgood also appears, if that matters to you), a history professor turned resistance militia member after aliens take over the planet, and somehow manages to pull it off. We'll be watching again for the two hour premiere Sunday night, check out a season two preview trailer embedded after the break.
(June 17th, TNT, 9 & 10PM)

Behringer Guitar Link UCG102 USB Interface Review

I don’t play any instruments, but my husband, Butch plays guitar and piano.  He’s always had an interest in recording his music, and over the years has purchased several expensive effects processors and recording devices.  These items are all tucked away because they are clunky to use and take a lot of space to get [...]

DropSpace adds real Dropbox sync to Android

dropspace
Dropbox offers a lovely client for Android, but it's lacking true "sync" functionality. You can merely browse your Dropbox, pull files into the device, and manually upload specific files.

DropSpace is a little Android app that makes Dropbox on Android work like Dropbox - that is, you get real folder synchronization in the background.

When you run the app you're prompted for your Dropbox credentials. After logging in to Dropbox, you get to select which device folders you'd like to sync to the cloud. It's a straightforward mapping process: You select a folder on the device, and then specify where in Dropbox it should go.

The interface is rather clunky, at least for now. The biggest annoyance is that you can't edit your "sync list": if you add a folder and then wish to remove it, you must delete the entire list of folders and start over.

In terms of functionality, it works quite well. I tested it with the camera folder, and it was nice to be able to take my photos using the lean default Camera app and have them sync up to the cloud instantly.

Would We Ever See a Scene Like This In Our Lifetime? [Image Cache]

This is a SpaceX rocket today. This is the very near future of SpaceX. And, hopefully, the illustration above would be the far future of the company, a time when ultra-heavy rockets will send extremely large cargos beyond Earth's orbit. More »

Firefox 4 Mobile officially released for Android and Maemo devices

Firefox 4 MobileMoments ago, Mozilla stripped the release candidate moniker from Firefox 4 Mobile and pronounced it fit for public release. If you have a Nokia N900 phone, or a fairly-modern Android 2.0-or-later device, go ahead and install it from the Market, by using scanning the QR code after the break, or by visiting Firefox.com/m.

Accompanying the release is the launch of Spark, a cute social game that's designed to fuel the adoption of Firefox 4 Mobile, much like last week's use of Glow and Twitter Party during Firefox 4 PC's release.

While the browser still feels a little rough around the edges, it's definitely worth trying out if you're still using Android's stock browser. Its JavaScript performance is significantly better than any other Android browser, and if you use Firefox on your PC, its built-in Sync functionality is awesome.

Over the next few days we'll have plenty of tips and tricks for Firefox 4 Mobile, and a list of the best add-ons available for the new browser.
